Victim's Husband Named as Person of Interest in Erie Stabbing Death
ERIE, Pa. - Erie Police now have a person of interest in last Friday's homicide on the city's east side.
Police Chief Randy Bowers tells Erie News Now Billy Ray Gordon, 57, is their only person of interest in connection with the stabbing death of Linda Gordon last week. Bowers confirmed Gordon and the victim were married.
Billy Ray Gordon is already in Erie County Prison, charged with robbing the Erie Federal Credit Union on Buffalo Rd. July 14. He was arrested and arraigned for the robbery late on the night of July 22, after his wife's body was found.
Bowers said detectives are using video from a private residence in the area to assist them in the case. Police are also using evidence recovered at the scene of the stabbing on July 22, just eight days after that robbery. Bowers wouldn't say what that evidence is, but that it was enough to consider Gordon as a person of interest.
Investigators say, Linda Gordon, 51, died from multiple stab wounds to her torso. Her body was found between Schaal and Camphausen Avenues. But police are trying to determine where and when the murder took place. Bowers said it was within a few hours of the body being found.
Police have not formally charged Gordon in his wife's death, but Bowers said the pattern of crimes leads them to believe he's involved.
"We're still in the initial stages of the homicide investigation. This crime won't be solved quickly," said Bowers. "There's a lot of physical evidence that was collected and is being processed."
This is the sixth homicide in the city of Erie this year.
Gordon is also being considered a suspect in at least one other recent bank robbery in the city, Bowers said.
