Driver Arraigned, Denied Bond in Fatal Hit-and-Run on Interstate 90 in Harborcreek
The driver who investigators said hit and killed a contractor working for PennDOT along Interstate 90 in Harborcreek Township was denied bond during his arraignment Tuesday evening.
Eric M. West, 19, of Erie, faces 17 charges, including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and involuntary manslaughter. District Judge Scott Hammer then sent West to the Erie County Prison without bond.
Jacqueline Ohly, 26, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, was working along a guiderail when she was hit by West's vehicle, according to investigators.
It happened around 7:28 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-90 near Depot Road (Exit 35). Ohly was pronounced dead at 8:23 a.m.
The vehicle that hit Ohly took off and crashed in another location. West was reportedly taken into custody in the Corry area.
West was then taken to the hospital for a blood draw for suspicion of DUI, according to State Police.
Ohly was working with her dad for National Construction, which was hired as a contractor by PennDOT to install a cable barrier in the median.
She was wearing all the required safety gear at the time.
An autopsy was conducted because Ohly was performing work for the state when she was hit and killed.
