Here's a bit of trivia especially for anyone who likes to go out for a drink. Did you know that the world's longest bar made of a continuous piece of wood is located here in Northwestern Pennsylvania? I'm going on a road trip to see this bar.  This trip will be exciting. The site where the bar is located is popular for many other things including the one of a kind spirits that are served there.

I've arrived at the WILDS Sonshine Factory in the community of Kane, inside the Allegheny National Forest about two hours from Erie. I see it! The world's longest bar made of a continuous piece of wood. It's a sight to see and it's beautiful. The old record was held by an establishment in Australia. It was 36 feet long. This bar is made from an eastern hemlock, the state tree of Pennsylvania. It's 43 and a half feet. Magnificent!

Taylor McConnell is the general manager of the WILDS Sonshine Factory. Please note that the word “sonshine” is not a misspelling. It is spelled with an "o" instead of a "u". Sonshine is the name of the spirit that is manufactured here at the factory and served at the beautiful bar. The bar is unique and so is the booze. It was invented here. Sonshine is made from sunflowers grown in the WILDS region of Pennsylvania, which is comprised of several counties near Kane.  If you want to have a taste of sonshine, you have to get it here at the WILDS Sonshine Factory.

"Kind of like tequila is only from the agave plant from a certain region in Mexico, sonshine has to be from sunflowers from the Pennsylvania WILDS area. It can only be from here,” says Taylor.

There's nine different flavors of sonshine including black cherry, pink lemonade, root beer, and green apple. It's used like a liqueur to make many specialty cocktails served at the long and shiny bar.

"So if you like one flavor in your tasting flight, more than likely there's two or three drinks on the menu that you can try with that flavor,” says Taylor.

The WILDS Sonshine Factory was started by local farmers to not only distill the sonshine but also to honor the things that made this area great. Timber, water, and agriculture. The education center inside the factory is a tribute to those resources. Let's have a toast to the WILDS area of Pennsylvania!!!

The WILDS Sonshine Factory is located on Route 6, just a few miles west of downtown Kane. Check its website for current hours of operation. The factory also has an outdoor entertainment area and a gift shop that features products made by local entrepreneurs from the Pennsylvania WILDS region.
