Republican Vice Presidential nominee Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance returned to Erie on Saturday for a campaign rally at Penn State Behrend.

He spoke about the economy, border security and energy.

"Kamala Harris has broken leadership," said Vance at the rallky. "Pennsylvanians are paying way too much for gas. They're paying way too much for groceries. Pennsylvanians are paying way too much to buy a house in their own communities. And of course, this great commonwealth is suffering as much as any other under the weight of Kamala Harris's wide open border."

"I think he brings down to earth common sense," said Nancy Shea, rally attendee. "I'm a big fan. I've read his book. I just saw the movie for the second time this week. I'm having my friends see the movie, too."

"[It's] just the blue collar aspect of it," said Shawn Kennedy, rally attendee. "We live in a Rust Belt city here in Erie, and J.D. Vance is from Ohio. We all know where his background is from, and that's what he brings to the ticket."

"They're real people, and they have common sense," said Roy Hollis. "They want they want America. Everyone wants everything to be right."

"It came out of the blue," said Jake Banta, a state lawmaker who spoke before Vance took the stage. "I didn't really know him before that, and [he's] levelheaded. It's a guy we trust to run the country."

"[He's] able to build himself up through hard work determination," said Carol Preifle, rally attendee. "He was raised right by his mama, so I think that's pretty great. I think he's like the American dream."

"Unequivocally, [we will] bring you is, first of all, the basic principle that the American president ought to look after the interests of American citizens first," said Vance during his speech. "That is the principle that underlies President Trump's entire approach to government."

The Ohio senator continued to urge voters to get out there and vote, even if they have to do so through early voting.
