Presque Isle Pickleball Offers Indoor Courts for Old & New Players: Giving You the Business
Pickleball. There’s a craze around this region and across the country for the growing sport where all you need is a paddle and a ball. And oh yeah—an open court. While there’s a number of leagues using outdoor courts in the area, tonight, Erie News Now takes you inside one of the newest, local indoor pickleball locations.
It’s this week’s Giving You the Business Report, sponsored by the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership.
The constant view for much of the day on the courts at Presque Isle Pickleball.
It’s a welcome sound and sight for Michael Agresti and his wife Helen. They own Presque Isle Pickleball, which was home to several other businesses before becoming an indoor pickleball hub on McClelland Avenue along Erie’s East Side.
In the fall of 2023, they opened this idea of Helen’s—a pickleball player herself.
"I started my first game the day we opened," said Helen.
Michael and all these other players are now hooked on this 24-hour facility where players can use what’s called the free court reserve app to schedule playing time. They’ll get a pin code sent to them to securely enter the building.
"I get excited about coming out, working up a sweat," said Ben Tresler. "Playing a game is just too much fun. Getting a workout and I’m smiling most of the time."
Ben Tresler and his playing partner say they often have different opponents to sharpen their skills.
"We use a team’s Reach App. You get different people out here. You can find groups from all walks of life," said Brian Vogel. "You can have a real, fun, just easygoing day or you can find some real competition, which in public places, it’s harder to set those with competition games."
If you’re worried about coming here and wanting to play pickleball but not knowing just how the games go, no worries, classes are offered here and there’s always a staff member to help.
Paddles and balls are offered too—on-site—for a small fee. There are memberships of different levels, but you don’t have to be a member to play.
Food is also available in the kitchen, named after a spot on pickleball courts.
Aside from play, there are party rooms where companies and anyone can rent them for a pickleball party.
"We have heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer, so it’s always about 70 degrees in here," said Michael.
No matter the season or the age of a player.
"I turned 82, and for me, it’s exercise," said Bob Borgia.
A one-year anniversary party is being held at Presque Isle Pickleball on November 15th. There will be membership deals and more.
You can contact the facility for any questions.
