21-year-old Man fatally shot on West 18th Street in Erie
A disturbance at a local bar leads to a fatal shooting.
It all started at the Red Tomato Lounge attached to the Erie Downtown Hotel on West 18th Street. Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers said a disturbance between two women ensued just before 2 a.m. Saturday. Chief Bowers says shortly after the women took the altercation outside, multiple shots were fired. One fatally hitting a 21-year-old black male in the upper body.
"It's a shame though, it's a shame we're killing each other," said Salah Udeen, of Erie.
Hours later, police were still on scene, canvassing the area, collecting several spent casings and interviewing witnesses. For lifelong residents of the area, news of another shooting is no longer a shock.
"I'm not surprised because I know we living in the last days," said Udeen. "And I already know it's a sign of the times." "Years ago it wasn't like this," said Erie resident, Walter Clark. "People used to unite together and they'd look out for their neighbors. And we didn't have this trouble."
As police continue their search for multiple suspects, people in this neighborhood say they're eager for a change.
"I really would like for people to pull together and be neighborly and love each other, and we wouldn't have this problem," said Clark. "They're taking love out of this life. Without love, there's nothing but destruction."
The fatal shooting marks Erie's 10th homicide of the year. Anyone with information is asked to contact Erie police at 814-870-1120.
