Grieving Mother of Children Killed in Daycare Fire Provides Response, Shares Photos
Shevona Overton is experiencing overwhelming loss and grief.
On Sunday, a fire ripped through the Harris Family Daycare on West 11th Street, killing five children.
Overton is the mother of four of the children who were killed.
“I’m just so hurt my babies are gone,” Overton told Erie News Now Lisa Adams. “I love them dearly. I just hurt inside knowing that my kids were fighting and hurting in that fire. Every minute, I feel the same pain.”
Overton provided Erie News Now Lisa Adams with photographs of her children, that she allowed us to share.
She tells us their names are La’Myhia Jones, 8; Luther Jones Jr., 6; Ava Jones, 4; and Jaydan Augustyniak, 9 months.
“I’m never going to be the same,” said Overton. “I lost a piece of me that can never be replaced. It’s just something I have to live with, and it’s going to be hard to do.”
The funeral for the children killed in the daycare fire will be Saturday at noon at Second Baptist Church.
Investigators believe an electrical problem may have sparked the fire.
They will be back on the scene at 1248 West 11th Street Monday to determine an exact cause.
