Road trips are your safest route to travel plans
Businesses across the state and the country are slowly reopening, and in the next couple of months people will start traveling again. The Amtrak, Greyhound and airports are preparing by increasing hygiene and using preventative measures to keep customers safe. But doctors say driving your car is probably your safest choice.
"In a car you’re with people you know. You're not coming in contact with people who you don't know and you don't know what their history is,” said Dr. Becky Dawson of Allegheny College.
Marlon Pierre knows firsthand what it's like driving long hours during this pandemic. He's a truck driver whose route takes him through Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut.
"Have your masks ready your gloves ready sanitizer all that. Try to limit your stops,” said Marlon Pierre, truck driver.
Using caution and pre-planning is important because the risks of catching the coronavirus is still high.
"We have to think through a lot of details not just am I just going to be gone for a week, but how am I going to pay attention to what's going where I'm heading. How am I going to get there safely and how am I going to monitor things in case things escalate at home or on the path where you're vacationing," said Dr. Becky Dawson of Allegheny College.
Dr. Becky Dawson also advises stopping for gas and using the restroom at the same place, do not eat out, and constantly keep your hands clean when on the road.
