Corry Lumber Business Damaged in Sunday Night Electrical Fire
Firefighters from Corry, Spring Creek, Spartansburg and Elgin were called out to fight a fire at Larix, Inc. in Corry on Sunday night.
The fire broke out at 175 Sample Flats Road just before 9:30 p.m.
The first units from Corry arrived to find light smoke pouring from the eaves of the sprawling two story metal structure.
Larix, Inc. is a manufacturing business that assembles northern white ash tool handles as well as dowels. It is the location of the former Thompson's Maple Products.
Corry Fire Chief James Lathrop says the fire, which spread through the walls and ceiling of the facility, has been ruled accidental and electrical.
Lathrop says it appears an electrical line shorted out.
Fortunately, the sprinkler system was activated, which helped crews get the fire under control in less than an hour.
At the height of the fire, 40 firefighters were on the scene.
Officials told Erie News Now that the business plans to be operational again in just a few days.
