Four occupants of a horse-drawn Amish buggy were were injured after a hit and run crash involving the buggy and an SUV in Crawford County Sunday. This leaves residents of Spartansburg feeling a bit uneasy. This is one of the many crashes involving horse-drawn carriages that have happened already this year in places such as Altoona, Meadville, and now Sparta Township.

Residents of Spartansburg say their biggest advice to drivers is to slow down when they see a horse-drawn carriage and be especially careful at dusk and dawn, when the sun is the brightest.

One Titusville resident visiting Spartansburg, Kellie Price-Brenner said that she thinks police need to patrol the roads during busy times of the day, when the Amish are driving to and from work.

Among the injured in Sunday's crash include a one-year-old boy and an infant boy who were life-flighted to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. The 23-year-old female passenger was taken to UPMC Hamot.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, injuries the buggy driver sustained were not serious enough to require medical attention.

It is unknown if the driver of the SUV was injured.

The incident happened just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening when a black 2018 Chevrolet Traverse rear-ended the Amish buggy as they were both traveling westbound on Canadohta Lake Road just west of the intersection with Route 89.

After the crash, the driver of the Chevrolet Traverse fled the scene, continuing westbound on Canadohta Lake Road.

According to the Associated Press, the SUV has been located, but no further information is available at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
