Donations Coming in for Erie Gives Fundraiser
The tenth annual Erie Gives fundraiser is underway.
The Erie Community Foundation event has raised nearly $27 million dollars for area non profits since it began in 2011.
Last year donations totaled about $5.5 million.
The 12-hour event began today at 8 a.m. and by noon, donations had topped $2 million. That is more than the same time period last year.
The minimum donation is $25.
Organizers were uncertain how the coronavirus pandemic would effect the fundraiser.
And this year the need is greater because many non profits have been struggling during the pandemic with many businesses cutting back operations and many workers laid off.
The number of participating non profits this year is 422, a record.
And sponsors are helping the foundation providing $400,000 in pro rated match money.
Donations can be made on-line at ErieGives.org or by telephone at 814-454-0843.
