Local Non-Profit Receives Major Boost in Funds
The Sight Center of Northwest Pennsylvania received the maximum allowable amount from the Federal Cares Act, $100,000.
The money will be used on current programs and operations, through the end of the year.
Executive Director Linda Moore said the funding will have a major impact on the Sight Center moving forward. "We have not been able to visit schools or be in Senior residential facilities. Our low vision clinic has temporarily been shut down. Two-thirds of our programs have come to a halt and that means two-thirds of our income has also come to a halt."
The Federal Cares Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020.
In June, Erie County applied for and received $24.3 million in block grant funding.
$6.5 million is designated for non-profits that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
