Confusion around New Coronavirus (COVID-19) Restrictions in Pennsylvania
Erie News Now is working to clear up confusion around new coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions in Pennsylvania.
State officials told Erie News Now the state would be implementing restrictions similar to those enacted by Philadelphia in mid-November, but the press secretary for Gov. Tom Wolf's Office said this is "not true."
We are committed to getting to bottom of this story and will bring you the latest.
There's no word on when the Gov. Wolf or Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine could roll out new restrictions, but Wolf said during a news conference Monday, "If we have to do more, we will" to stop the spread of coronavirus in the state. At that time, he also said the state will be making a decision soon on any further action to keep people safe.
The state has already imposed restrictions on bars and restaurants, limited indoor and outdoor gatherings, mandated the wearing of masks, and required out-of-state travelers to test negative for the virus before arrival. Health officials have also begged people to stay at home whenever possible.
- Indoor gatherings and events involving people from more than one household are prohibited.
- The city has limited outdoor gatherings and events there to 10 percent capacity or 10 people per 1,000 square foot - and cannot exceed 2,000 people.
- Indoor dining will not be allowed, but takeout, delivery and outdoor dining will still be permitted. Gyms and indoor exercise classes will be prohibited, as well as recreational businesses and activities including theaters, bowling alleys and casinos.
- High schools and colleges will also be required to move to online instruction only.
