Erie Firefighters Knock Down Flames in Apartment Fire at Friendship Towers

Shortly before 11:00 p.m. the Erie Fire Department and Erie Police responded to a fire in a high rise apartment building at 111 East 11th Street. 

A caller reported that flames were shooting from the 10th floor of the building known as Friendship Towers.

According to reports from the scene, the fire broke out in apartment 1006.

One person was taken to UPMC Hamot Trauma center suffering from cardiac arrest. 

There are unconfirmed reports that two other people may have suffered injuries as well.

Firefighters went throughout the building checking for any extension of the fire.

Crews were still rolling up hoses and cleaning up at the scene.  Fire officials have not said what sparked the fire.
