Big Turnout for Re-Opening of Hagen History Center
People escaped the rain on Saturday and filed inside the Hagen History Center on West Sixth Street for its grand reopening.
Kelly Montefiori, the President of the Board for the Hagen History Center said, "We have lots of inside exhibits so we are hoping people will be able to dodge the raindrops in between buildings."
Musicians played outside while people took in all the new exhibits in different buildings across the property.
Organizers said this weekend is geared more towards families, with activities like coloring or building different things, where children can have fun and learn something new at the same time.
Amanda Rockwood, the Curatorial Assistant described some of the new exhibits. "We have some hands-on experiences this time which that's exciting, but I just think it's a good way to get the family together and have that outing together" said Rockwood.
Not only are there children's activities, but there's also new exhibits to enjoy like the Servant's quarters, Oliver Hazard Perry's telescope and sword, and Frank Lloyd Wright's desk and car.
Visitors from near and far made their way to Erie on Saturday to come and see the reopening of the Hagen History Center, they said it's hard to compare it to other places with all the unique structure and architecture that this spot has to offer.
Ed Rockwood visited from Cleveland and said he likes how unique the Hagen History Center is. "Most museums were built only for the purpose of that given museum whether many years ago or recently, but this one really has a lot more character and personality", said Rockwood.
Organizers said after years of working on the exhibits and the renovations, they are happy to see the community and visitors finally enjoying it.
Free admission continues Sunday while the museum is open from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
