After taking a year off due to Covid-19, the Erie Kennel Club Dog Breed Show was back in full force.

It was another weekend where the Bayfront Convention Center was busy with an event. This time, it was packed with dogs, 156 different breeds to be exact.

Jeanne Steiner, the Show Chair for the Erie Kennel Club said, "We have almost 1,300 dogs entered in the show this year which is the most ever in the history of us holding the show here at the Bayfront Convention Center since 2009."

People traveled from Ohio, New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and even Canada for the annual show.

Thousands of dogs participated in the this weekend's dog show, some of them quite small, while other dogs were large.

One of those dogs that competed and won was four-year-old Marley with his owner Dan Buchwald.

"I have a whole line up of dogs and I have some others and they are all doing very well but yesterday he was the big star of the show", explained Buchwald.

Marley won the Breed and Terrier group and Best in Show.

Buchwald who has been attending and participating in dog shows for around 40 years shared the secret to winning.
"There's not a whole lot of strict training, there is some but mostly you have to create a bond between you and the dog and you have to understand what they want and you have to understand what they are willing to give you", said Buchwald.

While he said winning is wonderful, it's the friendship between owner and dog that matters the most. "The most important thing is to love them and respect them and give them a dignified life and if you do that you have a friend for life", said Buchwald.
