The goal of Retired Major Joe Pfadt, is to bring the USS Halyburton to Erie as a floating Museum.

The former Commanding Officer of the USS Halyburton, (Ret.) Rear Admiral Robert D. Reilly Jr., brings a unique perspective to the project.

He talked with Erie News Now exclusively Friday night.

"The Haliburton was involved in the rescue of Captain Phillips. Halyburton joined the Navy as a Medic, but was killed his first day of combat, attempting to shield the bodies of wounded Marines."

If the Oliver Hazard Perry Shipyard Committee completes the project, the Halyburton could make its way to Erie by 2024.

Reilly is confident Erie will qualify. " I've been impressed with their efforts so far and I think they have a great opportunity moving forward. I wouldn't be here if I was not so optimistic."
