JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) — Plans to redevelop Jamestown’s tallest building are finally underway, just four months after the initial interest was made public.

Jamestown City Council is moving forward with a $2 million dollar Restore New York grant application to remodel the Furniture Mart Building, located at 111 West Second Street in Downtown Jamestown.

Once complete, the building will be mostly residential, with plans for a hotel and commercial space in the lower floors.

While the grant has changed from a $500,000 dollar ask to $2 million dollars, the project itself will need close to $20 million dollars to fund in its entirety.

“We are submitting a Restore New York grant for round seven,“ explained Director of Development, Crystal Surdyk. “This is going to be for the Furniture Mart building, we did have a resolution to submit an application a couple months back. Unfortunately the owner, and the owner’s representative were not quite ready to submit in that round. We are confident that we will be able to submit a good application this round.”

The application for the Grant is due this Friday. A public hearing on the application will be held today at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
