In a typical year, Millcreek Paramedic Service responds to seven or eight-thousand calls.

Many of those calls according to Executive Director Bill Martin, do not require transportation to a hospital.

He told Erie News Now, "Probably 50 percent of those are legit emergency calls and the other 50 percent could have gone by other means, but the Pennsylvania Ems Act, doesn't allow it."

Martin believes educating the public is the top priority.

"We are getting calls for knee pain from people who had it for a week, do they need to be seen? absolutely. Do they need to call 9-1-1 and go by ambulance? not necessarily."

On Tuesday at 5 pm, the Bayfront Convention Center will host a Fire, Ems and Municipal Leadership Seminar.

Over 140 people are expected to attend the seminar.
