Erie is set right in the path of a total solar eclipse set to take place on April 8, 2024.

While we are still 2 days and a year out from this solar spectacular, Erie and the world are preparing for it starting now.

Erie is the largest city in Pennsylvania to witness the total eclipse. Cleveland and Buffalo are also directly in the path of totality.

Visit Erie is hosting a press conference today to start the countdown towards an event which they believe will boost tourism significantly. Visit Erie CEO John Oliver estimates that Erie could get anywhere between 65,000 and 260,000 out-of-towners coming to watch the eclipse.

One school, Crawford Central, has already preemptively announced an early release for the day.

Anyone interested in the science and path of the eclipse can always visit the website eclipse2024.org to find an abundance of resources. Experts predict that we'll be in total darkness for about 3 minutes and 29-seconds.
