The Mercy Center for Women has received a financial boost to help address homelessness.

Erie County Executive Brenton Davis presented the Mercy Center with $250,000 in American Rescue Plan funding.

The money will go towards the non-profit's new Mercy Anchor Community Center. The center can house 32 men, women and children who were previously homeless.

The funds will help the Mercy Center complete renovations on the lower level of the building.

"They're huge," said Jennie Hagerty, Mercy Center for Women. "They will provide the wrap around services that are necessary for the people we serve to receive, health care, behavioral health, food, education and an job readiness program, so they're fully prepared when they move forward on their journey to be successful."

"Some of these individuals have no where else to go, this center is an anchor for the community," said Erie County Executive Brenton Davis. "It's that first warm safe place they can go to receive those wrap around services so they can get back to a life where they feel safe and feel a sense of normalcy."

Erie County has awarded $52 million in ARP money, and is in the process of distributing the remaining $26 million.
