Pennsylvania U.S. Senator John Fetterman has issued a statement on the Supreme Court's decision to restrict affirmative action and limit consideration of race in college admissions.

“Today the Supreme Court upended the basic concept that diversity is our strength as a country. Institutions of higher education are places where people of all backgrounds come to learn more about themselves and the world around them. Today’s action tries to erase the very simple fact that historical racism exists in this country. It’s a cowardly decision that will have negative impacts for years to come," said Fetterman.

“Every student in Pennsylvania and across our country benefits from going to school and learning from people from different walks of life," said Fetterman. "The extreme conservative Supreme Court majority stuck its head in the sand and said we shouldn’t try to give kids of color a fair shot. It’s despicable.

“In the words of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson: no one benefits from ignorance. Discrimination and racism are still real in America. As your senator, I am committed to fighting to provide each and every one of our kids the opportunity to thrive and reach their potential, and no ignorant decision from the Supreme Court will ever change that," said Fetterman.
