Tire-Puncturing Spikes Found at Local Park
NAMBA
Harborcreek Supervisor Steve Oler is investigating after a half dozen spikes were found at S
ix-Mile Creek Park.
One vehicle tire was punctured, and other other spikes were found along bike trails.
"It's a head scratcher," he said. "Why in the world with someone want to do something like that to someone who is out, enjoying the park system, getting exercise and having fun?"
Joe Tomasik of the Northern Allegheny Mountain Bike Association helped collect the spikes.
He says he's disgusted but not deterred.
"We have worked with the township pretty hard to make sure that that was a place that everyone from the community could enjoy, and to see somebody use some area inhibitor that would cause harm, be it a pet or a kid or an adult, was pretty sickening."
Anthony Moreli, who hiked today with his daughter, agrees.
He loves the park and says he'll be extra vigilant now.
"It is disheartening," he said. "This is a gem. It is a beautiful place for everyone of all ages, so to have that happening is disrespectful and not appreciated by the community that uses it.
But the community will keep using the park.
They think that's the best way to keep the park safe
"I want you to come out and enjoy the park," Oler said. "The more people we have here, the lower the chance that someone's going to be able to do something. The more eyes we have, the better.”
Supervisors are still compiling evidence.
They plan to refer the matter to state police.
