Jesus Christ Superstar to Kick Off New Broadway in Erie Season
A new season of Broadway in Erie is set to kick off at the end of the month at the iconic Warner Theatre. The season is starting strong with Jesus Christ Superstar.
According to Tom Combs, NAC Entertainment, its the 50th anniversary celebration of the show.
"The nice thing about this is it's not the traditional Jesus Christ Superstar," said Combs. "This is a whole new revamped show. It's based on actually, it originally took place in London's Regent Open Air Theater. And this is a combination of the story and more of a concert. It's 90 to 95 minutes straight through, no intermission."
The tour just opened in Elmira, New York.
"We're excited because it's a classic with a twist. And that'll be something to see that somebody might say, 'Well, geez, I've seen Jesus Christ Superstar before' but they've never seen this Jesus Christ Superstar," said Combs.
Jesus Christ Superstar opens the 2023-24 Broadway series at Erie's Warner Theatre.
"We have Superstar and then Hairspray, Annie and Shrek. We have a couple of Christmas shows coming in like Manheim, Steamroller Christmas," said Combs. "There's a kid's show coming in November, which is Bluey. We're just really excited about the future."
Tickets for the October 30 and 31 shows at the Warner Theatre are on sale now. More information on Broadway in Erie can be found here.
