The Erie Police Department, along with UPMC Hamot, and UPMC Western Behavioral Health will be hosting collection sites for safe disposal for unneeded medication on Saturday, October 28.

The National Takeback collection boxes will be placed at the Erie Police Department and the main lobby of UPMC Hamot.

The police department said this a safe way for residents to dispose of prescription drugs.

Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain in their original container with the cap tightly sealed to prevent leakage.

The collections are taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Additionally, attendees can pick up free naloxone kits and rug disposal kits at both locations.
