With Erie already getting a sneak peak of winter earlier this week, it won't be much longer until the cold and snow truly sets in.

When it does, the Community of Caring homeless shelter is ready to give a warm place to sleep to those who need it - but are still asking for more in donations.

"We are accepting donations, we're accepting monetary funds, and we're also accepting any help as far as clothing or, anything that people wish to hand out to individuals so we can use to help," said Director of Operations Jerome Williams.

The men's-only shelter has a capacity for 28 people, with 6 deployable cots in the winter - as well as a women's shelter at the Mary Rose Sanctuary just down the street with room for up to 21 in the winter.

"It means a lot to us to put warmth on they backs," said Randall Harris, a Team Leader Supervisor.

"We don't want them dying in the wintertime from freezing to death. So we work diligently to make sure that we meet all areas and criteria to help the homeless out there who don't have shelter in the wintertime."
