Sugar Bay Forest Fire in Warren County
On Monday, November 6th the US Forest Service received notification of a fire in the Allegheny National Forest, situated just north of Sugar Bay.
As of the latest update, the fire continues to spread and has engulfed approximately 62 acres of forested terrain. The blaze is entirely confined to the Allegheny National Forest, with no threat to structures and is 40 percent contained.
The active fire has drawn a joint response from various firefighting agencies and organizations including the US Forest Service Wildland Firefighters, Glade Volunteer Fire Department, and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
One notable challenge in tackling this fire is the inaccessibility of the affected area. Located in a remote region with no road access, the firefighting teams have been coordinating efforts to reach the heart of the blaze. To facilitate this mission, the Glade Township Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) are utilizing their water rescue boats to ferry firefighters to the area.
Efforts to suppress the wildfire are ongoing, and while there have been no evacuations or immediate threats to property, local authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
Residents and visitors to the area are advised to stay away from the active scene.
As the situation develops, authorities will continue to provide updates and information, which can be found here.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
