The NHL's Edmonton Oilers are taking another direction with a brand new head coach, and Erie Otters fans might know him well.

Former Otters head coach Kris Knoblauch has become the next head coach for the Oilers. The team announced the hiring on social media on Sunday.

Knoblauch will replace Jay Woodcroft, who was fired on Sunday from the Oilers.

Knoblauch brings a very impressive resume to his next stop in Alberta. He was named OHL coach of the year for the 2015-16 season, proceeding to lead the Otters to the 2016-17 OHL championship title.

Knoblauch achieved four consecutive 50-win seasons with Erie. He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Before leaving for Edmonton, Knoblauch was head coach for the Hartford Wolf Pack, an AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, since 2019.
