Pennsylvania State Police will be stepping up DUI enforcement in Erie County over New Year's Day weekend.

The Girard station will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols at various locations, dates and times. 

The Erie station also announced it will be setting up a checkpoint sometime over the weekend of Dec. 29-31.

No other specifics were announced.

Troopers are reminding anyone who plans to drink alcohol to designate a sober driver.

They are also issuing a warning about legal and illegal drugs. Prescription drugs can also make some unsafe to drive.
