Local Sketch Artist Depicts Emily Matson, Donates Framed Artwork to Erie News Now
Patrolman Anthony "Scott" Allman was born to draw.
Allman has been a sketch artist for the Erie Police Department for the past two years. If you look in his portfolio, there is artwork of fallen police officers, loved ones who have passed, animals and one of his most recent works: Erie News Now's very own Emily Matson.
"I just knew she was just such a positive influence to everybody," Allman said. "You know this because it affected so many people."
After Emily's passing, Allman was sent a photo of Matson, so he grabbed his pencils, got to work and presented a framed sketch to Erie News Now as a gracious gift. It was delivered in person on behalf of the Erie Police Department.
"That was the one that spoke to me," Allman said. "I said, 'That's what I want to do.' When I see that picture right there, I think you can see what a wonderful, genuine person she was."
Allman takes all kinds of requests to draw people or animals he barely knows, and he only had a few small interactions with Emily in the past.
But all he needs is a bit of inspiration, and a few hours, to bring their legacy back to life.
"The times that I have talked to her, [she] always had a smile on her face," Allman said. "She was always just the nicest person. We're all one big family. We all are."
No matter their request, Allman does not charge one cent. When he presents families with these works of art free of charge, the payment he receives is a genuine, heartfelt reaction.
"If somebody's good at something, pass it on to somebody else," Allman said. "I realized that this right here puts smiles on people's faces."
