Bizzarro Targets Treasurer Garrity for January 5th, 2021 Harrisburg Protest
Before the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, there was a protest on the capitol steps in Harrisburg the day before.
Today, 3 years later Rep. Ryan Bizzarro (D, 02) held a campaign press event focused on Treasurer Stacy Garrity's actions at the 'Hear Us Roar' protest on January 5th, 2021.
“Stacy Garrity and her friend, Doug Mastriano, led a protest here that was a warm up event to the next day’s January 6th insurrection on the United States Capitol," said Bizzarro.
A small crowd gathered for the remarks, shifting outside to the State Capitol's steps where Pennsylvanian's gathered three years ago.
“She was elected to be treasurer. She was not elected to stoke flames," said Bizzarro. "She was not elected to increase the political divide here in Pennsylvania. She was elected to do a job.”
Bizzarro, who is running for state treasurer this election season, called Garrity Pennsylvania's highest ranking extremist.
“3 years later, Garrity has still never publicly apologized for role in instigating the attack on our democracy," said Bizzarro. "Stacy Garrity has not condemned the people who attacked our country, and Garrity has not accepted responsibility at all.”
A spokesperson from Garrity's campaign did send a picture and statement in response to Bizzarro's claim.
“Absent any clear understanding of what a state Treasurer actually does, Bizzarro is trying to distract voters with nonsense accusations," said Dennis Roddy, spokesman for Garrity's campaign. "Stacy Garrity immediately denounced the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol."
