Former Gannon Kicker Reacts to Tyler Bass Missed Field; Cat Adoption Group Receives Donations from Fans for Bass
Eric Scarpino knows how to hit game-winners. As a kicker for Gannon, he did it not once, but twice this past season before graduating.
"It's a lot of just muscle memory and just doing what you know is right," Scarpino said.
He certainly knows how the game-time pressure feels for kickers at any level, especially for players like Bills kicker Tyler Bass and his missed field goal against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
"I've had it, just like your stomach sinks in your heart and falls," Scarpino said. "You got to understand that what we don't do physically, [it] makes up for [us] mentally. You just got to understand, that's a lot tougher than you think."
Bass has received criticism from fans, but in Blasdell, N.Y, a cat adoption group has been having his back.
"So it started on Monday," said Kimberly LaRussa, Public Relations Manager for the Ten Lives Club. "Ten Lives Club started receiving phone calls. Our phones were ringing off the hook saying, 'We want to donate to Tyler Bass.'"
The kicker and organization know each other very well through a charitable partnership, and donations from the City of Good Neighbors have been "purring" in.
"The total now is more than $318,000," LaRussa said. "This has never happened to Ten Lives Club in the history of Ten Lives Club. Nothing like this."
LaRussa and the team have been sticking up for Bass...and so of the cats.
"We kind of just wanted to let the community know [to] leave our friend alone," LaRussa said. "Our staff and volunteers are his biggest fan[s]."
