Erie's Black Wall Street Celebrates Achievements
In honor of Black History Month, the city of Erie is celebrating the accomplishments of Erie's Black Wall Street.
The organization's co-founder Kyra Taylor met with Erie Mayor Joe Schember on Thursday, to highlight some of the organizations accomplishments.
Since 2020, the non-profit has helped more than 500 people through its financial literacy program.
More than 220 Black-owned businesses are part of Erie's Black Wall Street business directory. The organization also offers a pathway to home ownership program.
So far, Erie's Black Wall Street has helped 12 families purchase homes through $91,000 in assistance.
"The need is really great," said Taylor. "We still have a lot of work left to really get our numbers where they are supposed to be. Erie is a diverse city. There's a lot of different cultural aspects to Erie, in which we love and we just want to make sure all people are supported and have equity."
Erie's Black Wall Street will celebrate local businesses at its second annual Greenlight Business Awards Gala on February 24, at the Sheraton Hotel.
