Volunteers Give Back with ServErie Saturdays
It was a day of giving back all through the region with ServErie.
The organization tackled projects big and small from the east to the west side of the county.
Folding one shirt at a time, volunteers with ServErie transformed a community closet at Iroquois Elementary School.
Karl Bush, a Volunteer with ServErie explained, "In the Iroquois School District we have a lot of kids in need and it really helps out to have clean clothes to have them to come and get and to wear it and feel good about themselves especially in the Erie weather."
Volunteers spent the morning sorting, organizing and folding clothing. After all the sorting, it was all about organizing the closet that provides free clothing for children in need.
Volunteers said even donating a few hours of their time goes a long way. "A lot of people in need in our community and anyone can get involved with this. A little bit of time, a lot of time, any skills they have, we are folding clothes anyone can do that, it really does help out and the smallest can help out a lot", said Bush.
Iroquois wasn't the only school getting some TLC, other projects happened throughout the community too. As Kerrie Grande, the ServErie Program Director explained, "We are coming out to be the hands and feet behind the organization. They do great things in the community and we come behind them to offer extra hands, to clean, organize, sort, paint, put things away, move things around, whatever they might need from us."
Grande said the best part of the program is the satisfaction of giving back, "So I just love seeing our people love our community so well."
Groups also helped out with projects at Elk Valley Elementary School, Grover Cleveland and L'arche. Their next ServErie Saturday is set for the fall.
