Preparations are underway around Chautauqua County, as the total solar eclipse will be happening in just a few months on April 8th.

The Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport is gearing up for a spectacular community event, called “Fly by Night”.

It will be a two-day celebration beginning on April 7th at 8:00AM with a pancake breakfast and will continue through the 8th with the main celestial event happening at 3:00PM.

Event organizers are inviting the community to experience this once in a lifetime celestial event.

Visitors to the airport will be treated to more than 40 vendors including local food trucks, who will be on site, offering a variety of food, gifts, and other items to enhance the eclipse viewing experience.

“The festivities will start between 9:00AM each day," stated Shannon Fischer, Manager of Airports. "They are slated to finish by 5:00PM, but it could run a little longer on Monday, depending on the traffic. We are anticipating quite a few extra aircraft.”

During the eclipse, the local flight center is taking the event to new heights offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for their students and aviation enthusiasts to witness the eclipse from the sky.

“With out flight school planes, we are actually looking forward to taking pilots and other groups up to see the eclipse from the air", Dave Hinz, President and Flight Instructor with Great Lakes Flight Center said. "We have a couple of aircraft that some pilots have already rented out to take their own pleasure flight during the eclipse and we are using our biggest aircraft to take a group here from the flight school out flying during the eclipse as well.”

The two-day event is completely free to the public, but for those looking to take something home, the airport has designed commemorative t-shirts and bags filled with eclipse-related snacks and treats, available for purchase, ensuring visitors have a memorable keepsake.
