The Erie Police Department responded to a fight at Strong Vincent Middle School on Friday, March 8.
According to a statement from Erie's Public Schools, district officers attempted to de-escalate the situation but ultimately deployed pepper spray when those efforts were unsuccessful.
Erie's Public Schools placed the school on a soft lockdown as a precaution for the safety of students and staff.
Erie Police officers removed a number of students from the school. The school district said it is fully cooperating with the Erie Police Department in an ongoing investigation.

“Erie’s Public Schools police officers and officers from the Erie Police Department responded to a fight involving a group of Strong Vincent Middle School students in the school cafeteria this afternoon. District officers attempted to de-escalate the situation but ultimately deployed pepper spray when those efforts proved unsuccessful. The school was placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution for the safety of staff and students. Erie Police Department officers removed a number of students from the school premises. The district is fully cooperating with the Erie Police Department in an ongoing investigation. The safety of our staff and students is our foremost priority as we review today’s incident and provide support to students and staff in the days ahead.”
