Presque Isle State Park Prepares for Total Solar Eclipse
One of the estimated hot spots for people to watch the total solar eclipse on Monday at is Presque Isle State Park.
Jon DeMarco, executive director of the Presque Isle Partnership, is excited not only for the amount of people who will be in Erie but they are also debuting an eclipse-related t-shirt.
"We are very fortunate to have a collaboration with Erie Apparel on our Pepe the Frog fundraiser t-shirt for this weekend and what is unique about this shirt is that it has glow in the dark elements, the white ink glows in the dark so when the eclipse occurs you shirt will be lighting up, it is a great keepsake and benefits a great cause," DeMarco said.
DeMarco hopes that once the eclipse is over, tourists are not racing to get back home and will stay a little longer and enjoy some of our local attractions.
"From wine country to the great local shopping, breweries, the natural aspects of Erie, parks and obviously Presque Isle State Park," DeMarco said.
Another area close to Presque Isle that people can check out is the Tom Ridge Environmental Center.
"Come visit our gift shop, we are stocked full of eclipse glasses, merchandise, toys and games for kids and Presque Isle apparel so we are very excited about that, come see our films and just enjoy what the Tom Ridge Environmental Center has," Anthony Perino, director of operations at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center said.
Anne Desarro, environmental education supervisor at Presque Isle State Park said the park is beautiful and to keep it that way, they are implementing a system they are calling "leave no trace."
"If you are bringing trash in or food wrappers for a picnic, please throw them out or take them home with you and view the eclipse safely with eclipse glasses," Desarro said.
