A 13-year-old boy has died following a UTV (utility vehicle) crash in West Mead Township, Crawford County on Saturday.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident was reported on Shartle Rd. just east of Leslie Rd. around 10:18 a.m.
Troopers said they arrived to find a juvenile in the roadway with serious injuries. West Mead volunteer firefighters and Meadville Ambulance responded to the scene. Life saving measures were administered at the scene.
The teen was transported to Meadville Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, according to investigators.
The victim was one of four teens heading west on Shartle Rd. in the Polaris UTV, when the utility vehicle rounded a curve and rolled onto the passenger side, ejecting the victim, state police said.
The UTV ended up on all four tires again, started spinning and landed in a ditch, according to troopers.
Another passenger suffered minor injuries but did not require treatment, according to investigators. The final passenger and the driver did not report any injuries.
State police said the operator and the two surviving passengers are all age 14. The crash remains under investigation.
