Manufacturer & Business Association Hosts Panel Discussion with Pittsburgh Works Together
Local business leaders gathered to talk about ways to make Pennsylvania more competitive.
The Manufacturer and Business Association hosted a day of discussion, with the executive director of what's called: Pittsburgh Works Together.
The organization is made up of several unions and businesses, who work together to influence state policy.
The conversation focused on Governor Josh Shapiro's 500 million dollar plan for site development and preparation, and its potential impact on Pennsylvania.
"We're seeing a lot of development got to Ohio, because there are sites ready now, we have a tax structure that isn't inviting to you to come here and work immediately. Pa. is saying I'll let you know in seven years. You tell me, where are you going to go? There is no reason pa shouldn't be part of the conversation," said Jezree Friend, Manufacturer & Business Association.
"Businesses do not like uncertainty," said Jeff Nobers, Pittsburgh Works Together. "You can get a company all set to come here, and they are ready to roll on site and then , oh, by the way, it's going to take two years to get your permit. Guess what? They are gone because Ohio is doing the same permit in 30 to 60 days. So, we really have to address that as well."
The Manufacturer and Business Association has been working with Pittsburgh Works Together, for the past four years.
