First Lady Dr. Jill Biden gave a speech of encouragement, optimism and determination to the Erie County Community College's graduating class on Saturday.

Malik Stallworth graduated with an Associate's degree in Information Technology and said, "Its kind of unbelievable that this is a big country and for her to care enough and come to our school means a lot."

Her visit left students feeling inspired. "It really means a lot, it's crazy that she's coming to small town and I never would have thought that she would and its really special that she's s here", said Hannah Festa, graduating with her Associate's degree in Liberal Arts.

Dr. Chris Gray, the Founding President of the Erie County Community College said seeing the support of families and friends of students is what makes this day priceless. "It I get to see the parent's reaction or the kid's reactions or the former teacher reaction, its such a special day ."

Graduating students said they wouldn't be crossing the stage without the support of faculty and staff. "If you need the help then this is the place for that, in bigger institutions there are so many other people, and its not as focused on you and I think that makes a difference here", said Stallworth.

Now that they have their degrees, graduates are ready for their next chapters. "I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do, now that I have gotten it, I have decided I want to transfer to Penn State Behrend and finish my Bachelors."

In addition to the First Lady, Pennsylvania Auditor General Tim DeFoor and fellow Community College graduate addressed the class. As for who will be next year's speaker? Dr. Gray said they would like to invite a graduate back to speak.
