Fairview School District Mourns Loss of Student Killed in Sunday Crash
Erie News Now has confirmed the 17-year-old girl killed in a crash Sunday on Interstate 79 near the Kearsarge exit was about to enter her senior year at Fairview High School.
The 19-year-old driver hurt in the crash just graduated.
The car had just merged onto I-79 north, crossed the right lane, hit a car in the left lane and rolled over several times, ejecting Cadence Gannoe, who investigators said was not wearing a seatbelt.
The entire Fairview community is grieving this tragedy. Superintendent Donald Stark talked about the loss, and about plans for grief counseling.
"Our teachers are now impacted," said Donald Stark, superintendent of Fairview School District. "We have administrators who live next door to parts of these families. In my short tenure, I've learned there's a lot of connections in our student population and our teachers and staff and just the entire community. It's going to be hard hit for us, and it's been a sad day."
This week the Fairview District will offer group counseling in the high school's Chill Room on Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
There will be another support session Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. These are open to students, teachers, and families.
Counselors will be available for one-on-one sessions as well.
