Special Olympics of Erie received a financial boost Thursday.

Odis 12 presented the organization with a $1,250 check for the money raised from the Bobby Burger.

The fundraiser was created in memory of Bobby Thomas, who was the head groundskeeper and loved a good mushroom and Swiss burger.

Throughout April, 50 percent of the proceeds from the Bobby Burger went towards the fundraiser.

Odis 12 sold more than 200 burgers for the cause.

"It takes a lot of money to run the Special Olympics," said Diane Sickles, development director. "We're trying to grow our program, so we continually count on the community for support. There are a lot of people out of the goodness of their heart raise money for the Special Olympics."

Special Olympics provides year-round training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
