Pennsylvania Office of State Inspector General (OSIG) filed public assistance fraud charges against 90 people in April and May.

The restitution owed in these cases totals $716,496.

Felony charges of defrauding the public assistance system were filed against 85 individuals, and five others face misdemeanor charges.

The defendants are accused of either trafficking their public assistance or misrepresenting their household circumstances to fraudulently receive taxpayer-funded public benefits to which they weren't entitled.

If convicted of public assistance fraud, they could face up to seven years in prison and a fine of $15,000.

Suspected welfare fraud can anonymously be reported using the OSIG website or by calling the Welfare Fraud Tipline at 1-800-932-0582.
