A well deserved round of applause was given for a group of people that contributed to saving the lives of Linda Cornell and Donald Edge. There were 14 first responders from EMTs, firefighters and 911 dispatchers that were recognized during the AHN St. Vincent award ceremony for two outstanding saves in Crawford County.

“It's not something that we get to see often.  It's one of those jobs where we take someone to the hospital and then we move onto the next call.  So, we don’t get this kind of recognition like we did tonight, and it's nice once in a while,” EMT and firefighter for Hayfield and Springboro Katie Sherretts said.

For one of the calls, Katie Sherretts and her 16-year-old daughter, Hailey Miller, worked together alongside others to help restore Linda Cornell's pulse.

Miller worked on both calls. Miller also helped her firefighter dad in the second call to help regain Donald Edge's heartbeat.

“I’m new but still getting to meet the people I saved is really important, and it feels nice to get recognition,” Miller said.

Sherretts said seeing her daughter be a first responder gives her a sense of pride.

“We always said when she was little, she would hang out at the fire department with us. She’s either going to love it or hate it. The other daughter doesn’t like it at all, but this one loves it, so it makes me proud to know she’s going to continue it,” Sherretts said.

Firefighter and EMT Brendon Stoll said this event shows how important it is for people to volunteer, be involved and have emergency training.

"Seeing these outcomes — it's a great reminder of the difference we can all make in the community in these situations . . .We need more people to get involved. Everybody’s facing a lack of volunteers. Having more people get involved and get training is very much a needed thing in our communities," Stoll said.
