Crawford County Celebrates Newly Renamed George M. Hummer County Forest
The Crawford County Planning Commission, Planning Office, and County Commissioners celebrated the newly renamed George M. Hummer County Forest earlier today.
This event featured a dedication, ribbon cutting and more.
Local officials, family members of George Hummer and Dr. Claire Jantz, the Deputy Secretary for Conservation and Technical Services of the Pa. Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources were in attendance.
Crawford County first purchased the 436 acre area in 1937 and established it as a county-owned forest in 1944. Commissioner Hummer was passionate about the outdoors.
The County says its only fitting to re-name the forest in Commissioner Hummer's honor. The forest is a premier outdoor attraction balancing natural features with recreational use.
