Local Musicians React to AI Music Generator
Erie News Now Sunrise continues AI week with a look at how artificial intelligence is playing a role in music. Reporter Megan Solensky sat down with local musicians Dan Baney, Kayti Stadler, Jack Stevenson, and Sean Stevenson to get their reactions to an Artificial Intelligence that generates songs.
"If you played that song in Erie, third set at the Sloppy Duck people would be jamming the floor screaming," said musician Jack Stevenson.
Initially, they were impressed. The generator creates both the music bed and vocals for songs. The website also gives the lyrics so users can follow along.
"I think it's an asset," said musician Kayti Stadler. "I think you're going to see a lot more people who don't usually write songs suddenly have originals. If I'm being honest, I don't think they'll give credit to AI."
However, they did have concerns.
"The number one question is, do people know the difference?" said Songwriter Dan Baney. "The second question is, would they care?"
Some other questions the musicians posed were how close these generated songs are getting to something already written, and how likely is it to get the same song generated by different people.
