Residents at Conewango Towers, a part of the Warren County Housing Authority, have been struggling with bug infestations.

Despite contacting numerous resources, many residents feel that their concerns are not being heard.

“I contacted the office here, the people here, and I contacted HUD," stated Chris Kemery, Resident. "When I contacted the FHA, they said that there was nothing they could do and that I had to contact HUD again. It’s just back and forth and it's not going anywhere.”

The maintenance supervisor at Conewango Towers stated that he understands their plight and acknowledges the widespread nature of the problem.

“Bed bugs are everywhere," stated Jason Leonard, Maintenance Supervisor. "It’s not just here in Warren, we aren't the only ones who have them, it’s a global thing.”

Representatives from the Housing Authority stated that they conduct quarterly spraying of all of the apartments as a preventative measure.

However, there is a limit to how effective spraying is after a certain number of times.  Representatives stated that treatment is a group effort, they need the residents to do their part as well, by cleaning and vacuuming as recommended.

Guidelines for treatment have been posted throughout the building, along with quarterly resident meetings, to assist residents in cleaning procedures.

“This has been a battle for all of us," stated Tonya Mitchell-Weston, President of Warren County Housing Authority. "When we first started this process, we had a 69% infestation and we got it down to 2%. We know that progress is being made, but how do you demonstrate that to someone who still sees a bug in their apartment? It's frustrating and we understand that.”

"I like living here, it's a nice apartment and a good price," stated a housing resident. "But I don't want to have to share it with these bugs!"

“I see them working on it," said David Camp. "She’s trying, whether she’s going about it the right way, I don’t know.”

Representatives from the Warren County Housing Authority stated that they will be having another quarterly resident meeting, where they will be sharing the best practices to get rid of bug infestations.
