After months of construction, Gannon University on Thursday celebrated the grand opening of a brand-new greenhouse as part of Project NePTWNE.

The 21'x72' growing space will be used to grow native plants for wetland and dune restoration at Presque Isle State Park.

It will also be used to grow vegetables for Gannon Goodwill Gardens.

The greenhouse will serve as a hands-on learning space and provide research opportunities for both Gannon students and members of the community.

It will also help the consortium continue its mission of improving the ecosystem around Lake Erie.

"Greenhouse space, there is always a need for," said Dr. Jeanette Schnars, Regional Science Consortium. "To develop our project even further, we have the momentum, and we have the resources. We just needed the space. This is going to be an exponential growth from where we're at now."

The consortium plans to build two additional greenhouses next to the current one to help increase programming even more.
