LECOM Hosts Flu Shot Clinic

LECOM hosted their annual flu shot clinic on Tuesday where anyone nine years or older could get their vaccine for the season.

Labor Day marks the end of the summer season, which means cold and flu season is right around the corner.

Jason Turba, a pharmacist with LECOM said, "Now it's a great time, it's not too early to get your flu shot. We have all formulations available, we have over 65, we have an egg free formula for people with egg allergies and of course, the standard dose."

Tim Watkins has been getting his flu shot for years and said, "I get one every year because I don't want to get the flu and if I do it won't be that bad."

Mary Jane Koenig gets her flu shot to protect her health and the health of others,  "It's always important to get one to protect your health especially when you are older. I see now that they are giving flu shots from nine on up. I think that's important."

After people got their flu shots, they were able to learn about different community resources, like GECAC or Meals on Wheels.

LECOM officials hoped people took advantage of learning about different organizations at one location. "They are here to distribute information about a lot of these programs that they offer that people may know of or heard about, but they may not know specifically how to access these programs as well", said Turba.

Organizations like Meals on Wheels tends to get new clients by attending community events, which gives them the chance to help more people in the region. Jennifer Hoffman, the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Erie said, "There are more and more seniors in our community every single day. The abundance of need is more than we can do on our own. But we do want to let people know that anyone that does need us or who could use our services, home delivered meals, a compassionate check-in, a grocery delivery, gets what they need."

Tuesday's event was a one stop shop for people looking to put their health first.

Flu shots will be available at LECOM's vaccine clinics on Schaper avenue every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

They will also be giving out the new Covid vaccine once its distributed.
