The man accused of stabbing author Salman Rushdie in western New York more than two years ago is scheduled to finally head to trial Monday.

Hadi Matar, who was 24 at the time, is charged with attempted murder for the attack on the Satanic Verses author on stage at the Chautauqua Institution in August 2022.

The attack reportedly left Rushdie blind in one eye.

The 76 year old has since written a book about the incident.

Matar’s trial was originally supposed to start in January, but it’s been delayed by defense requests.
